The Hohe Tauern National Park – a world-famous natural heritage site
The nature reserve stretches across the three Federal States of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia. All main alpine eco-systems are represented here in pristine condition and across a vast area.
Apart from 266 three thousand metres high mountains, around 130 square kilometres of glaciers, 550 lakes and 279 streams, the protection of nature and fauna as well as sustainability are the key points behind the national park idea.

The popular Alpine-Adriatic Trail is a famous long-distance hiking tour which starts at the base of the Grossglockner and leads through Carinthia, the Friuli and Slovenia to the sea.
Apart from the well-known ski resorts Zell am See-Kaprun, Gastein, Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun and Maiskogel or the Zillertal Arena, the focus is also on small but beautiful ski resorts in winter. They score with fantastic family specials and attractive prices and include the ski resorts of Rauris, Großarltal Valley, the Wildkogel Arena, Nagelköpfel in Piesendorf and the Weißsee Glacier World in Uttendorf. The Mölltal Glacier/Flattach is the highest and most snow-reliable ski mountain on Austria’s side of the Southern Alps. Skiing can be enjoyed here in up to 3.122 m above sea level.
All in all, the Hohe Tauern National Park holiday region is an unbeatable holiday destination. Fun, sport, action or just relaxing, there is definitely no time for boredom here. A visit to the National Park Centre in Mittersill is always worthwhile, especially on days when the weather isn’t so nice.
