Rustic, pure nature & hut fun!

The Großglockner! It’s the highest mountain in Austria, a landmark and the pride of the Upper Tauern National Park. Why is that important? Because you should spend the most beautiful time of the year in this region that is steeped in history and legend. With a height of 3,798 metres, it towers above Austria’s alpine region and carries 180 km² of glacier ice on its shoulders.

Set off along the legendary high alpine road (for a fee), past blooming mountain pastures, solid rocks and whispering streams towards Heiligenblut – your holiday destination. Make use of the journey past adventure stations and museums to explore the history of the north-south connection that is thousands of years old. It’s worth it – we promise. You can observe the mountain goats, chamois and even golden eagles in their natural surroundings.

The creatures are also some of your direct neighbours in the quaint mountain chalet. A former picture-perfect alpine dairy farm where the dairymen and farmers spent the summer months with their animals. Milk processing was not only a vital necessity but also its own science. Every dairy worker had secret recipes for the best cottage cheese in the region. Now, as then, the best herbs grow here, you can breathe in the clear air and drink the healthiest water. Far away from the influences of the towns and valleys, you’ll find calm and strength. Without electricity, internet, strain & stress you’ll feel invigorated on your holiday here and can actively tackle daily life.

These are the highlights of the rustic mountain chalet:

  • Panorama terrace with priceless views
  • Property’s own, best spring water – refreshingly cool
  • Outdoor toilet house
  • Sleeping chamber with access hatch (very popular with children)
  • Guaranteed deep sleep in alpine hay beds (upon request)

The sun-seared, black wooden beams are witnesses of a bygone time, both outside and inside. The property still has a washing bowl for “quick washing”. Hardened individuals can take a plunge in the trough with its icy cold water, which can also be used for cooling drinks. The typical wood-fired oven can be used for cooking and heating. The Almliesl has been cosily furnished for its guests and some of the facilities have been updated. The owner will tell you about exciting legends and is an expert in herbals. She regularly bakes delicious organic bread and likes inviting Almliesl guests to help. She also knows the best places to find mushrooms and berries – so you must ask her for the details.

Wintertime is a quiet time, a time to take a break

On request you can also book the rustic alpine hut in winter. Mountaineers, nature boys and girls can get on and off here. A real break here on the Gipperalm is perceived as a unique experience for outdoor fans and as an opportunity for adventurers on touring skis or snowshoes. Idyllic Heiligenblut, which resembles a winter wonderland in winter, is around 5 km away. Skiing in the Großglockner / Heiligenblut ski area is something special and a true high-altitude experience.

Tip: The Sattelalm serves delicacies and can be reached in just 1 hour on a hike. You should also plan a visit to the Fleiß Valley where you can try your hand at gold washing. Good luck!
