The Hohe Tauern National Park – a world-famous natural heritage site

In addition to over 300 three-thousand-meter peaks, around 342 glaciers, 551 lakes and 279 streams, nature conservation, animal welfare and sustainability are at the heart of the national park concept. The "national park region" comprises 18 towns, most of which offer Almliesl vacation accommodations. Whether you're looking for enjoyment, sport, action or simply relaxation, you'll never be bored here. If the weather isn't playing ball, a visit to the National Park Center in Mittersill is well worth it. This vacation destination is truly unbeatable!

Visitors to these towns enjoy a wide variety of highlights and attractions in the region, such as the largest waterfalls in Europe—the Krimml Waterfalls. The Großglockner, with its impressive glacier and exciting ascent, is also a popular destination at 3,798 meters above sea level. Sillian, located in the Puster Valley in East Tyrol, is one of the largest municipalities in East Tyrol and lies directly at the foot of the 2,440-meter-high Thurntaler. And the popular Alpe-Adria-Trail, a well-known long-distance hiking tour, starts at the foot of the Großglockner and leads through Carinthia, Friuli and Slovenia to the sea.

In winter, in addition to the well-known ski resorts such as Zell am See-Kaprun, Gastein, Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun and Maiskogel or the Zillertal Arena, the small, charming resorts are also in the spotlight. They score points with great family specials and attractive prices. These include the ski resorts of Rauris, Großarltal, Wildkogel Arena, Weißsee Gletscherwelt in Uttendorf and the Mölltaler Gletscher/Flattach—the highest and most snow-sure ski mountain on the southern side of the Austrian Alps at 3,122 meters above sea level. The Großglockner Resort Kals-Matrei is the largest ski resort in East Tyrol.
