Mountain holiday in the Vosges

The mountain range of the Vosges is dominated by chestnut trees, pine and fir forests. Two nature parks are situated below, in the hilly valley, between the vineyards of Alsace in the east and the Lorraine plateau in the west. One of them is the UNESCO biosphere reserve that crosses the border into Germany. Traditional mountain inns invite you to enjoy delicacies typical of the region. Authentic and hearty food is prepared here with first-class ingredients. Eat, drink and enjoy is the motto here.

At 1,424 metres, the Ballon de Guebwiller is the highest mountain in the Vosges. It borders directly on the Vosges "Route des Crêtes" (Route of the Ridges), a classic with a 360-degree view and a vista all the way to the Alps. Alsace's ultimate mountain stage leads 73 km through impressive mountain landscapes and historic sites. The route is lined with castles, churches and memorials steeped in history and reminds of a turbulent time of battles and conquests in the Vosges.

Art and culture

Considered a beautiful gateway to visit the Vosges is Plombierès-les-Bains, a town with 1001 balconies and magnificent craftsmanship. Even Napoleon liked to relax here and enjoy the refreshing springs.
Fort du Parmont also promises a bit of history. Children explore this extraordinary town on the plateau here with great fascination. Troop quarters, officers' rooms and a cannon collection are contemporary witnesses to life at the fortress.

"Piedmont of the Vosges”

The low mountain range is known for its idyllic winegrowing areas. Picturesque winegrowing towns are situated on the slopes of the Vosges. First-class white wine with a long tradition is predominantly produced here. High summer temperatures, low rainfall and cold winters ensure strong flavours and great finesse.

Magical winter season and winter sports

Towns and villages present their glittering side during the cold winter months. In the glow of countless lights, the most magical of all Christmases is celebrated with a warm atmosphere and culinary delights.
The numerous spas in the region are also a tradition when the temperatures are freezing. Places for a rest, to recharge your batteries and relax tired bones.
Winter fun is provided by small but beautiful ski resorts, especially for families and beginners. In any case, you should enjoy the landscape while cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Especially the nature parks offer plenty to discover, as you plod across the glistening snowfields.
