"Hello!" and “Welcome!” to the Salzburg Nock Mountains in Lungau
Including the Carinthian Nock Mountains, you are right in the middle of Austria's largest UNESCO biosphere park. It has been recognised as a particularly valuable habitat for man and nature. The members of the park are committed to preserving the original character and the holistic development of the region.
For tourism and for your holiday this means "back to the roots"; close-to-nature tourism that involves the protection of nature, culture conservation and sustainable landscape development.
What could be more original and authentic than spending the most beautiful time of the year here in a mountain hut?
We have found this quaint, pure nature hut for you here above Kendlbruck in 1,700 metres above sea level.
Yes, that’s right:
- There is only limited electricity here, but enough for all the "most important" appliances
- No mobile phone reception - we have a "tip" for you below
- Cooking and heating are done with the traditional wood burner in the quaint living room
- TV and internet have not yet arrived up here
- There is no running water in the kitchen and food and drinks are cooled in the freezing cold well (food is packed in airtight Tupperware and plastic bags)
But that is exactly what makes it so special!
Up here, between gentle alpine meadows and forests, away from traffic noise and the stress of everyday life, you can finally switch off.
You wake up to the first tinkling of the cowbells, experience live how the mist lifts and clears the view to the surrounding peaks. Full of excitement, you tie your hiking boots, pack bread and cheese and set off for your summit experience, for example to the Kilnprein in 2,408 m. A family-friendly hiking tour, approx. 2.5-hour walk, takes you to the serviced Esselhütte in Schönfeld. With a small lake as destination, the hiking tour to the source of the stream is recommended.
You don't need Sat TV, gaming apps or social media
Enjoy the here and now at the evening barbecue, watch marmots or game that ventures very close to your hut in the evening. What a fantastic experience!
Tip: Guests welcome the fact that they are not always available on their mobile phones. Nevertheless, many want to be sure that they can contact their loved ones in case of an emergency. The owners are happy to help out. Simply leave the most important telephone numbers on arrival. This way, calls can be made and received in urgent cases.
