In the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, in the Krimml Achental Valley – the Valley of Natural Wonders, is a gem of an alpine hut. Your holiday hut at the crystal-clear Ache stream can tell a story or two because it was built laboriously by hand as a life’s work. Once built for dairy farming, the grandfather had already planned the foundations before World War II. The father of the owner completed the hut in 1981. Natural stone, cedar wood shingles and timber blocks are the basis of the hut. The timber for the barn was still transported via the rapid waterfall route.
The hut area is surrounded by a traditional Pinzgau fence. Craftsmen who know how to build such fences are hard to find nowadays.
Due to its rustic appearance, it is difficult to imagine that the inside is dominated by bright solid Swiss pine wood furniture in farmhouse style. Many items have been made lovingly by hand. The bathroom is new and modern and features stylish tiles and details. The fragrance of Swiss pine wood in the very cosy bedrooms has a calming effect on the body and promotes relaxation.
The Krimml Waterfalls are just as pleasant as they are famous. Bronchial asthma, allergies, stress-related diseases and disorders of the vegetative nervous systems could be treated lastingly with a waterfall therapy. The impressive spectacle of nature of the world’s fifth-biggest waterfalls attracts visitors from around the world.
A day of hiking in the Krimml Achental Valley starts directly at the hut’s front door. The Krimml Tauern House, the Hölzlahneralm, Veitenalm and the Söllnalm can be reached within half an hour. Pedal pushers use the Tauern Cycle Route, trails and mountain bike routes to the waterfalls or far into the head of the valley.
