Your hut experience in the feel-good market town
The market town of Molln is the centre of the Upper Austrian Kalkalpen National Park. The
holiday region, which is considered a recreational area for people and in particular the source of life for wonderful flora and fauna, describes itself as "wild & biodiverse".
You will find your quaint holiday hut, a former hunting lodge, surrounded by numerous hiking trails and mountain bike routes.
At the base of the Schoberstein – the local mountain, surrounded by dense forests and lush meadows, the hut is part of a former farmstead whose old buildings have not been used for many years. The old walls exude a special charm and, if they could, they would tell stories of bygone times.
The hut is built on the slope and the lower, brick-built part was once used as a stable for the cattle. The timber façade is sunburnt and – unjustly - appears rather unimpressive. The stairs on the slope lead to the official entrance and from there the hut really shines.
The old hunting lodge was renovated inside and converted around 20 years ago
- Floorboards,
- the quaint living room with divan and wood burner typical for the region and
- an extension with a generous seating area, provide the right amount of cosiness.
An important yet charming detail is that the bedroom under the roof is accessible via the outside
staircase. Kids love the character of a dormitory with high-quality solid wood beds. Lots of wood, creaky floors and the fresh forest air ensure a good night’s sleep after long barbecue evenings at an open fire.
This place is a paradise for explorers of all ages
The national park forests around the hut are home to a great variety of animals and plants. You can watch deer, foxes, hares and many other species especially in the early hours of the morning or after sunset. This is the time when the animals come very close to the hut.
Did you know?!
Ever heard of a "Jew's harp"? This is a very peculiar musical instrument that originated in the region
around Molln. It is a so-called "trouser pocket instrument", which is said to have an eroticising effect.
What you should also know about Molln:
The small market town became famous 100 years ago through a dramatic poacher story, which was later made into a film. It's best to ask the owner of your holiday hut about the gory details.
Besides historical facts, she also knows the best hiking and mountain bike tours. For example, the "Rinnende Mauer" hiking tour, which can be accomplished on 3 different trails, taking between 1 to 2.5 hours. Ask her also about the surrounding serviced huts, like the Ebenforstalm or the Schobersteinhaus. Here you will be rewarded with regional delicacies after a calf-straining climb.
Tip: The National Park Centre, with an exhibition well worth seeing, is highly recommended for rainy days.
